If you’ve ever flown in or out of Ho Chi Minh City, you know that Tan Son Nhat International Airport is a busy place—and that getting to the terminal can sometimes be half the journey. But now, with the construction of two new roads leading directly to the future Terminal 3, things are set to change for the better.

These new developments are part of a larger effort to improve traffic flow and make the airport experience smoother for the millions of passengers using Vietnam’s busiest aviation hub.

What’s happening, and why now?

Tan Son Nhat Airport is undergoing a major upgrade. The construction of Terminal 3 is currently underway and expected to be completed in 2026. Once finished, this new terminal will handle up to 20 million domestic passengers per year, easing pressure on the existing terminals.

But what’s a new terminal without better roads to reach it? The city is now building two strategic access roads to connect surrounding districts directly to Terminal 3. These new roads are designed to reduce congestion, improve safety, and speed up journeys to and from the airport.

The two new access roads

  • One road will connect Tran Quoc Hoan Street to Cong Hoa Street, creating a more direct route for airport-bound traffic from central districts.
  • The second road links the airport area to Phan Thuc Duyen Street, helping ease bottlenecks and distribute traffic more evenly.

Both roads are being built with wider lanes, pedestrian sidewalks, and drainage systems—an upgrade not just for travelers, but for the surrounding neighborhoods too.

What it means for travelers and the industry

For travelers, this is welcome news. The roads are expected to reduce traffic jamscut transfer times, and make reaching the airport much easier—especially during peak travel seasons and holidays.

For travel agents, tour operators, and DMCs, this upgrade improves the reliability of airport transfers and allows for more precise travel planning. Clients arriving or departing from Ho Chi Minh City will benefit from a more relaxed, efficient start or end to their trip.

It also strengthens Ho Chi Minh City’s reputation as a well-connected travel hub, crucial as Vietnam continues to grow as a destination for leisure, business, and MICE tourism.

Looking ahead

The road projects are scheduled to be completed in coordination with the opening of Terminal 3 in 2026. As Vietnam continues to invest in transportation infrastructure, travelers can expect smoother journeys and better experiences from the moment they land.
