If you have sold Vietnam for more than a season, you already know Da Nang as “the airport for Hoi An”. That description is now a year out of date. Da Nang closed 2025 with 17.3 million visitors, 7.6 million of them international, and international arrivals were up another 28 per cent in the first half of 2026.
It is the country’s fastest-growing gateway, the only city in Vietnam with a Skytrax five-star airport terminal, the home of Central Vietnam’s only Michelin-starred restaurant, and the centre of the Vietnam Golf Coast. And since 1 July 2025, when Quang Nam province merged into the city, Hoi An Ancient Town, My Son Sanctuary, the Cham Islands and the Hoiana resort strip all sit inside a single destination called Da Nang.
This Da Nang travel guide is written for the travel professional, not the backpacker. It gives you the facts you need to build a quote — distances, seasons, ticket prices, room categories, flight connections — and the selling arguments that turn a “maybe Central Vietnam” into a confirmed booking.

Why Da Nang is the smartest base in Central Vietnam
Most European itineraries treat Central Vietnam as a two-night stop in Hoi An between Hanoi and Saigon. That works, but it leaves money on the table. Da Nang lets you sell the region as a stay rather than a stopover, because everything a client wants is inside a 90-minute radius: a long, clean city beach; an ancient trading port with UNESCO status; an imperial capital over the Hai Van Pass; a mountain resort with the most photographed bridge in Asia; and a golf coast designed by Norman, Nicklaus, Donald and Montgomerie.
The numbers back it up. Da Nang grew international arrivals by 25 per cent in 2025 and by 28.7 per cent in the first half of 2026, when foreigners made up 52.8 per cent of all visitors — a higher international share than any other Vietnamese city. Korea, China, the United States, Australia and Taiwan lead the market, but Russia is now sixth and the United Kingdom tenth, and the whole European segment is growing faster than the average. Your clients are already going; the question is whether they are booking it through you.
Getting there: flights and the Long Thanh factor
Da Nang International Airport handled 6.81 million international passengers in 2025 and serves 21 scheduled international routes in 2026. There is still no non-stop flight from Europe, which is exactly why the routing advice matters.
From Western and Northern Europe. The cleanest connections are Qatar Airways via Doha and Emirates via Dubai and Bangkok (four times weekly, Boeing 777, arriving Da Nang late evening). Vietnam Airlines’ non-stops from Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, London, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Milan land in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, from where Da Nang is a 75–85-minute domestic hop with departures every hour. From Russia and the CIS. Da Nang has a direct summer programme for the first time since 2019. Vietjet and Anex Vietnam launched charters on 16 April 2026 and run around 57 flights a month until 31 October from twelve cities in Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus; the first Moscow–Da Nang flight landed on 23 May with 377 passengers. Expect the winter programme to shift to Cam Ranh and Phu Quoc, then return to Da Nang in spring 2027.
From Asian hubs. Seoul, Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipei, Tokyo, Osaka, Kuala Lumpur and Manila are all non-stop, which makes Da Nang a natural first or last stop for clients combining Vietnam with a stopover elsewhere in Asia.
The Long Thanh effect. From the summer 2027 schedule, European long-haul flights to Saigon move to the new Long Thanh airport, 40 km outside the city, while domestic flights stay at Tan Son Nhat. A European arrival connecting to Da Nang may then mean an airport change in Saigon. Our advice: route Europe–Vietnam clients via Hanoi for the Da Nang connection from March 2027, or fly into Da Nang via Doha or Dubai and avoid the issue entirely. When to sell Da Nang: the honest season guide
Central Vietnam has its own climate, and it is the one European agents most often get wrong. Da Nang’s rainy season is not the summer monsoon of the south — it is the north-east monsoon of autumn.

The sales rule is simple: February to August for beach-led programmes, and December to January and September for culture-led programmes at lower rates. October is the month to avoid for anything beach-dependent. If a client insists on October, sell Nha Trang or Phu Quoc for the beach nights and give them Hoi An for two nights of lanterns and rain-on-tile-roofs atmosphere.
The beaches
My Khe is the reason Da Nang exists as a resort city: roughly ten kilometres of wide, gently shelving sand running from the Son Tra peninsula south towards the Marble Mountains, lined with resorts on the inland side of the coast road. Access is free, lifeguards are on duty in season, and the water is calm from March to August.
Non Nuoc, the southern continuation, is where the large-footprint resorts sit — Hyatt Regency, Sheraton Grand, Furama, TIA Wellness — with quieter sand and direct beach access.
An Bang, 25 minutes further south, is Hoi An’s beach and has the best beach-bar culture of the three. For a two-centre stay, we usually recommend three nights on Non Nuoc or My Khe and two in Hoi An, or the reverse for culture-first clients.
The attractions, with prices your clients will ask about
Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge. The mountain resort 40 minutes west of the city, reached by a record-setting cable car, is home to the hands-holding-the-bridge photograph that has done more for Central Vietnam’s marketing than any campaign. Standard adult tickets are around 950,000–1,000,000 VND (about €33–35) including the cable car; children between 1 m and 1.4 m pay roughly 750,000 VND; the cable car runs 08:00–19:00 and the park until 22:00. Allow a full day, or a half day for a Golden Bridge-only visit. It is a theme park with a French village, not a heritage site — position it honestly and families love it.
The Marble Mountains. Five limestone-and-marble outcrops between the city and Non Nuoc, with cave pagodas and viewpoints; 40,000 VND entry, 15,000 VND for the lift. A two-hour stop that works well on the way to Hoi An.
Son Tra peninsula and the Lady Buddha. The 67-metre Linh Ung statue on the forested peninsula is free to visit and the drive around the peninsula gives the best views of the bay; look for red-shanked douc langurs. Best in the late afternoon.
The Dragon Bridge. The steel dragon across the Han River breathes fire and water every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 21:00 for about fifteen minutes. Free, and the single most reliable “wow” of any Da Nang programme — book a riverside dinner table facing the bridge.
Museum of Cham Sculpture. The world’s finest collection of Champa art, 60,000 VND, open 07:00–17:00, and the ideal primer before My Son.
My Son Sanctuary. The UNESCO-listed Hindu temple complex of the Champa kingdom, 40 km south-west of Hoi An; 150,000 VND for foreigners, open 06:00–17:00. Go at opening to beat the heat and the coach groups.
Hoi An Ancient Town. The old town ticket is 120,000 VND and covers five heritage sites; children under 1.3 m are free. The lantern full-moon evenings are covered in our Hoi An lantern festival guide, and the best day-trip structure in our Hoi An day-trip guide.
Hai Van Pass. The 21-kilometre coastal pass between Da Nang and Hue is one of Asia’s great drives. The tunnel takes two hours to Hue; the pass takes three to five with photo stops, and is worth every minute in clear weather.
Cham Islands. Eight islands 20 km offshore in a UNESCO biosphere reserve; speedboat around 500,000–600,000 VND plus a conservation fee of roughly 80,000 VND. Season is May to August only.
Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF). The 2026 edition ran from 30 May to 11 July with ten teams from nine countries, including Germany, France, Italy and Portugal, competing on the Han River on Saturday nights. Dates for 2027 are usually announced in January; assume late May to mid-July and hold riverside rooms early.
Eating: a Michelin star and 46 other reasons
The 2026 Michelin Guide, published in June, recognised 47 venues in Da Nang: La Maison 1888 at the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula kept its star, Nén Danang holds Vietnam’s Green Star for sustainable cooking, and 23 restaurants carry a Bib Gourmand — a higher count than Hoi An or Hue and a useful selling point for food-led clients. The Bib list is where the value is: mi quang noodles, banh xeo pancakes and grilled seafood at prices that let you include a “Michelin-listed lunch” in a group programme without touching the margin. Golf: the Vietnam Golf Coast
Da Nang is the only place in Southeast Asia where four signature designers sit within an hour of each other. Green fees in 2026 (weekday to weekend, caddie included) run roughly:
- Hoiana Shores (Greg Norman) US$120–160;
- BRG Da Nang Golf Resort’s Dunes course (Jack Nicklaus) US$90–140;
- Ba Na Hills Golf Club (Luke Donald, with night golf on Wednesdays and Fridays) US$100–160;
- Montgomerie Links US$55–100;
- Laguna Lang Co (Nick Faldo, on the Hue side of the pass) US$80–140;
- Vinpearl Nam Hoi An US$80–120.
The Vietnam World Masters amateur tournament is playing its two weeks in Da Nang as this article goes live (6–19 September 2026, week one sold out), which tells you how strong the demand is. Where to stay: the room categories
Da Nang has more than 46,000 rooms, and around 18,600 of them are in the four- and five-star segment. That depth is your friend: the city rarely sells out outside Tet and the July fireworks Saturdays, and average five-star rates (around US$112 in 2025) are 20–40 per cent below equivalent Thai beach product.
- Icons on Son Tra: InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula (Bill Bensley design, home of La Maison 1888) — the honeymoon and incentive flagship.
- Non Nuoc and My Khe beach resorts: Furama (with the Ariyana Convention Centre attached), Hyatt Regency, Sheraton Grand, Fusion, TIA Wellness — large pools, kids’ clubs, direct beach.
- Hoi An side: Four Seasons The Nam Hai, Hoiana Resort & Golf, Vinpearl Nam Hoi An, and the boutique villas along An Bang.
- City and river: the Han River hotel cluster gives value-conscious groups Dragon Bridge views and walkable dining at four-star prices.
- Coming soon: Mandarin Oriental Da Nang (60 villas on Non Nuoc) is scheduled for 2026, and Nobu Hotel Da Nang is in construction on My Khe; confirm opening dates before selling either.
For multi-generational families we pair a Non Nuoc resort with a Hoi An boutique; for honeymooners the Nam Hai or the InterContinental; for golfers Hoiana or BRG, both with courses on site.

The Heritage Connection train is the transfer to sell. Two departures a day in each direction (07:45 and 14:20 from Da Nang), a ten-minute photo stop at Lang Co lagoon, live Hue court music on board, and fares of 180,000–210,000 VND standard or 395,000–460,000 VND in the VIP carriage. It replaces a two-hour road transfer with a three-hour experience your clients will talk about.
MICE: the APEC legacy
Da Nang hosted the APEC Leaders’ Meeting in 2017 and kept the infrastructure. The Ariyana Convention Centre has a 2,079 m² grand ballroom for 2,500 delegates theatre-style, twelve further meeting rooms, a 5,000 m² beach garden for gala dinners and 329 Furama rooms on site, fifteen minutes from the airport. It won the ASEAN MICE Venue Standard award in 2026 and hosts the Vietnam Financial Forum this year. Selling Da Nang to your markets
German-speaking clients respond to the Hai Van Pass, the Cham heritage and the Green Star at Nén; they will ask about the rainy season, so lead with the February–August window and the Heritage Connection train.
Nordic and Dutch clients are the fastest-growing European segment in Vietnam and book 14–21 days; Da Nang works as the five-night beach centre between Hanoi and Saigon, with cycling in the Hoi An countryside as the active day.
British clients know Hoi An from television and will book the Golden Bridge; upsell them to the InterContinental or a golf day.
Russian clients have direct summer charters, a mature Russian-speaking resort infrastructure on My Khe, and a well-founded preference for the long beach; sell April to October in Da Nang, and switch to Cam Ranh or Phu Quoc in winter. Entry rules in one paragraph
Citizens of Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia enter visa-free for 45 days until 14 March 2028; Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland, Czechia, Hungary and six other European countries have the same 45 days for tourism until 14 August 2028.
