Why Mui Ne belongs in your 2027 brochure
For twenty years Mui Ne was the beach that European backpackers and Russian families found before everyone else. In 2026 the rest of the world caught up: Booking.com put Mui Ne at number one on its list of emerging destinations for 2026, Google’s Year in Search ranked it third among trending travel destinations, and the strip now counts more than 600 properties and around 18,000 rooms. In the first quarter of 2026 Mui Ne welcomed over 384,000 visitors — more than half of them international.
The reason is simple: Mui Ne solves the problem every Vietnam itinerary has. After Hanoi, Ha Long, Hoi An and the Mekong, clients want three days of doing nothing on a beach — and Mui Ne is the closest proper beach to Saigon, on a new expressway, with a dry season that runs exactly when Europe is cold. Add Long Thanh airport from December 2026, which lands clients even closer, and you have a beach add-on that practically sells itself.
Where exactly is Mui Ne? A five-minute geography lesson
Mui Ne is the headland at the eastern end of a long bay, and “Mui Ne” in brochures usually means the whole 50-kilometre coast around Phan Thiet, the old fishing city. Since July 2025 the area is part of Lam Dong province (the former Binh Thuan merged into it — the names Mui Ne and Phan Thiet are unchanged and remain what every hotel, driver and search engine uses). The coast breaks into five zones worth knowing:
- Ham Tien (the “resort strip”): eight kilometres of Nguyen Dinh Chieu street with 50-plus resorts, restaurants and kite schools. Where most clients stay.
- Mui Ne fishing village and bay: the photogenic harbour with coracle boats; a working port, not a swimming beach.
- Hon Rom: north of the headland, the widest and calmest sand on the coast — best for families with small children.
- Suoi Nuoc: a quiet open bay about 20 km east, home to the new Radisson and to intermediate kitesurfers.
- Phu Hai, Tien Thanh and Ke Ga (south of Phan Thiet): golf, the NovaWorld resort city and isolated luxury at Ke Ga lighthouse.

When to go: two seasons, both sellable
Mui Ne is the driest corner of Vietnam — roughly 1,000 mm of rain a year, most of it in short afternoon bursts — and it is warm every month, with highs of 29–32 °C. The sea sits between 25 °C in January and almost 30 °C in May. What changes is the wind:

Things to do (and what they cost in 2026)
- Sunrise jeep tour to the dunes: the signature Mui Ne experience. Fairy Stream (a red-canyon paddle, about 15,000 VND), the fishing village, the Red Dunes (sand-sledding, about 50,000 VND) and the White Dunes at Bau Trang with its lotus lake. Private jeep for up to six people 600,000–1,200,000 VND; quad bikes on the White Dunes 200,000–600,000 VND per run. Leave at 04:30 and clients are back for breakfast.
- Ta Cu Mountain: a cable car (250,000 VND return) to a hilltop pagoda and the 49-metre reclining Buddha, Vietnam’s largest. Thirty kilometres south — the natural stop on the way from Saigon.
- Ke Ga lighthouse: built in 1899 on an offshore rock, 183 steps up, a small boat across. Pair it with lunch at Ke Ga bay.
- Po Shanu Cham towers: eighth-century brick towers above the city with a view of the whole bay; nominal entry.
- Lang Chai Xua fish-sauce museum: Phan Thiet has made fish sauce for 300 years and this is Vietnam’s only museum of it (100,000 VND). Better than it sounds, and a great story for the group.
- Golf: Sea Links (18 holes, Ronald Fream, perched 80 m above the sea) and NovaWorld’s 36 holes including the Greg Norman-designed PGA Ocean course.
- Phu Quy island: a 2.5–3-hour fast ferry (350,000–400,000 VND) to a still-quiet island for adventurous clients with an extra two days.
The kitesurfing capital of Southeast Asia
From November to March the afternoon wind off the dunes blows a reliable 15–30 knots, cross-onshore, in water that never needs a wetsuit. That is why Mui Ne has more kite schools per kilometre than anywhere else in the region — C2Sky, Vietnam Kiteboarding School, Jibe’s, Surfpoint and others, most IKO-certified, with English-, German- and Russian-speaking instructors.
Budget about US$120–150 for a three-hour introduction and US$450–600 for a five-day IKO course. October and April bring lighter 10–18-knot winds, ideal for beginners. Wing foiling and SUP fill the calm months.

Eat like a local: seafood, sand and 300 years of fish sauce
Phan Thiet is a fishing city first, so dinner is the day’s highlight. Send clients to the “Bo Ke” seafood street by the fishing village for grilled scallops and sweet snails, to Tuyen Quang street in Phan Thiet for banh can (little rice cakes) and banh xeo, and to any resort for lau tha, the fisherman’s hotpot. The province is also Vietnam’s dragon-fruit heartland: a farm visit at sunset, with the fields lit up, is a brilliant add-on to a jeep tour.
Who to sell it to
- Russian and CIS clients: Mui Ne has hosted Russian families since the early 2010s; Russian signage, menus and instructors are everywhere. How far is Mui Ne from Ho Chi Minh City?
About 200 km, or 2.5 to 3 hours by private car on the Dau Giay–Phan Thiet expressway. From Long Thanh airport (scheduled to open 1 December 2026) it is about 140 km and under two hours.
What is the best time to visit Mui Ne?
November to April is the dry, sunny season and the kitesurfing season. April and May have the calmest sea and warmest water. June to October is quieter with lower rates and short showers; October is the wettest month.
Is Mui Ne good for families?
Yes. Hon Rom has the calmest beach, Centara Mirage is built for families with 984 rooms and water slides, and the jeep tour, sand-sledding and Ta Cu cable car are easy wins with children.
Is Mui Ne or Nha Trang better?
Mui Ne is closer to Saigon, drier and more relaxed, with dunes and kitesurfing. Nha Trang has a city, islands and its own international airport. Many itineraries combine both via Da Lat.
