Why 2027 is the easiest year yet to sell Vietnam
Remember when every Vietnam quote started with “well, you change in Bangkok or Doha”? That conversation is over for most of Western Europe. Vietnam Airlines now runs 12 non-stop routes to eight European cities — Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, London, Milan, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Moscow — flown by Airbus A350-900s and Boeing 787-9s. Air France adds its own Paris–Ho Chi Minh City service, and the Russian corridor has grown into the busiest of all.
The market has noticed. European arrivals to Vietnam reached 2.68 million between January and August 2026, up 53.4% — the fastest-growing region of any. Poland is up 51%, Switzerland 27%, Sweden 25%, Germany 15% and France 13%. Vietnam welcomed 15.9 million international visitors in the same eight months, a record. Direct flights are the reason the “how do we get there?” objection has quietly disappeared.

City by city: what to tell your clients
Paris: the daily bridge
Paris is the strongest European gateway by a distance. Vietnam Airlines flies to Hanoi every day and to Ho Chi Minh City four times a week, and Air France adds three more Ho Chi Minh City rotations. That is up to 14 weekly non-stops from one city, which makes Paris the natural connection point for clients in Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain and Portugal who take a short feeder flight or the TGV.
Frankfurt and Munich: Germany gets both ends of the country
Frankfurt–Hanoi is daily and Frankfurt–Ho Chi Minh City runs five to six times a week, with Munich adding three Hanoi and two Ho Chi Minh City services. For German-speaking clients this unlocks the classic open-jaw: land in Hanoi, work south through Ha Long Bay, Hue and Hoi An, and fly home from Saigon without backtracking. Swiss and Austrian clients typically position to Munich or Frankfurt; there is still no non-stop from Zurich or Vienna.
London: five a week and growing
Heathrow has three weekly flights to Hanoi and two to Ho Chi Minh City since the summer 2026 schedule change — a step up from the previous timetable and enough to build a Monday-to-Monday two-week holiday without an overnight in the Gulf.
Milan, Copenhagen and Amsterdam: the new arrivals
Milan–Hanoi (three weekly, A350) gives Italian agents their own door. Copenhagen–Ho Chi Minh City, launched in December 2025, is the only non-stop between Scandinavia and Vietnam and three-times-weekly on the 787-9. Amsterdam–Hanoi, the newest route (June 2026), runs three times a week on the A350 and finally gives the Dutch and Flemish market a direct line to the north. Nordic and Benelux clients are exactly the travellers driving the 53% European growth, and these two routes are why.
| AGENT INSIGHT: THE OPEN-JAW TRICK Every European city on the map serves either Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City — and Paris, Frankfurt, Munich and London serve both. Book into Hanoi and out of Ho Chi Minh City (or the reverse) and your clients see the whole country in one line, north to south, with no repositioning flight. Fares are usually priced per direction, so the open-jaw costs the same as a return. For Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Milan clients, add one domestic flight (about 2 hours, from around €60) to close the loop. |
Russia: the busiest corridor of all
Russian arrivals passed one million in the first eight months of 2026, up 166%, making Russia Vietnam’s third-largest market. The scheduled backbone is Aeroflot: Moscow–Cam Ranh (Nha Trang) at up to 12 weekly flights on the A350 and A330, Moscow–Ho Chi Minh City twice weekly, and a new Moscow–Phu Quoc service from 15 October 2026. Vietnam Airlines flies Moscow–Hanoi four times a week.
On top of that sits a huge charter programme for winter 2026–27: Azur Air from seven Russian cities to Nha Trang, Vietjet with Anex and Intourist from Moscow, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Vladivostok and a dozen more cities to Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc and Da Nang, and Ikar with Pegas. No non-stop from your city? The smart one-stop options
Zurich, Vienna, Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon, Warsaw, Prague, Stockholm, Oslo, Helsinki, Brussels and Dublin still have no non-stop link. Three answers work well:
- Position to a European gateway. A one-hour hop to Paris, Frankfurt, Munich or Amsterdam, then the non-stop. Best for clients who want the Vietnamese carrier experience and a single long sector.
- Fly via the Gulf or Istanbul. Qatar Airways (Doha), Emirates (Dubai), Etihad (Abu Dhabi) and Turkish Airlines (Istanbul) all serve Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City daily or near-daily, with total journeys of 16–20 hours. Emirates and Qatar also reach Da Nang, useful for Central Vietnam itineraries — there is still no non-stop from Europe to Da Nang.
- Watch Prague. Vietjet launches Hanoi–Almaty–Prague on 10 October 2026, twice weekly on the A330 — a one-stop, same-plane link for Czech and Central European clients, and the first step in Vietjet’s European plans.
A note on Bamboo Airways: the carrier ended scheduled flying in August 2026 and now operates charters only. Do not plan 2027 programmes around it.
Long Thanh: which airport will your Ho Chi Minh City clients use?
Ho Chi Minh City’s new Long Thanh International Airport (IATA: LTH) is scheduled to open commercially on 1 December 2026, about 40 km east of the city. The published transition plan moves traffic in phases: a first group of international routes from December 2026, then European, American and Oceania flights from 28 March 2027, with almost all international services following by late 2027. In practice, European clients flying to Saigon in the summer 2027 season should expect to land at Long Thanh — but the exact date each airline moves is still being confirmed, so check at booking. On board: what the flight is like
Vietnam Airlines is a Skytrax four-star carrier and was ranked among the world’s top 25 full-service airlines for 2026 by AirlineRatings, which also named it best-value business class and best-value premium economy in the world. The A350-900 seats around 305 with 20 lie-flat business seats and 20 premium economy; the 787-9 seats 312 with 16 and 16. For clients who want to arrive rested, premium economy on the daytime Paris and Frankfurt departures is the value sweet spot — and a strong upsell for you.

The official transition plan moves European long-haul flights to Long Thanh from 28 March 2027, after the airport opens commercially on 1 December 2026. Confirm the airport with the airline when you ticket for 2027.
