Many Vietnam trips follow the same line: Hanoi, Ha Long, then the coast. Two add-ons change the character of a trip. Hue is the former imperial capital on the central coast. Sapa is the mountain town in the far north-west. Both are in VietOne’s program. This guide shows which tours to use, who they suit and when they work.

Why add Hue or Sapa
A second beach adds little to a trip. History or mountains give it a shape: discovery first, rest later. For you, the add-on also means a fuller booking, with guide, transport and hotels in one quote.
One add-on is enough for most clients. Hue fits trips built around Da Nang and Hoi An. Sapa fits trips that start or end in Hanoi. The two sit at opposite ends of the route. Together they need real time.

Hue: the day tours you can book
Hue was the seat of the Nguyen emperors from 1802 to 1945. VietOne sells three full-day tours from hotels in Hue. All three include a private car and a local guide.
Hue Full Day City Tour. A walk through the Imperial City: the Flag Tower, Ngo Mon Gate, the Throne Hall and the Dynastic Urns. Lunch with local dishes in a garden house. A dragon boat on the Perfume River to Thien Mu Pagoda. In the afternoon, the tomb of Emperor Tu Duc and the incense makers of Thuy Xuan village.
Hue Full Day Art & Architecture. The Imperial City, then the Imperial Antiques Museum and An Dinh Palace. Lunch in a mandarin’s garden house. In the afternoon, the tombs of Tu Duc and Khai Dinh. For clients who like detail.
Hue Full Day Bach Ma National Park. About 41 km south of Hue. A guided trek on the Ngu Ho Trail, about three hours, past five waterfalls to the Do Quyen Falls viewpoint. After lunch, a short walk to the summit platform at 1,444 m. The page says clients need a reasonable level of fitness.
How to combine them:
- One night in Hue: the city tour.
- Two nights: the city tour plus Bach Ma. The city tour and the art tour both start in the Imperial City and both visit Tu Duc, so they overlap.
Our Hue travel guide for agents has more background on the city.

Hue plus Phong Nha, or Hue inside a longer trip
Phong Nha Exploration (2 Days) starts and ends in Hue.
- Day 1. North into the former DMZ. Hien Luong Bridge on the Ben Hai River at the 17th parallel. The Vinh Moc Tunnels, where villagers lived underground during the war. In the afternoon, Paradise Cave in Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park, on a 1 km wooden boardwalk. Night in an eco-lodge by the Son River.
- Day 2. Dark Cave: a zipline over the river, a swim into the cave, a mud bath, then kayaking. Drive back to Hue, arriving around 6 pm.
Clients need swimwear and should be at ease in water. This is for active clients who like history. It is not for clients with limited mobility.
Hue is also part of two longer VietOne programs:
- Vietnam Active Holiday (10 Days) takes the night train from Hanoi to Hue. The Hue day includes cycling and kayaking on the Perfume River. The next day crosses the Hai Van Pass to Hoi An.
- Vietnam Insider Journey (17 Days) flies from Hanoi to Hue, then also crosses the Hai Van Pass to Hoi An.

Sapa: sold as part of a northern loop
VietOne does not sell Sapa as a short stand-alone trip. Sapa is part of two loops from Hanoi.
Dien Bien & Sapa Circuit (6 Days). Hanoi to Mai Chau, with a night in a stilt-house homestay. Then the Moc Chau plateau and Son La. Dien Bien Phu, with the museum, A1 Hill and the De Castries bunker. Over the O Quy Ho Pass to Sapa. In Sapa: the Muong Hoa valley train, the Fansipan cable car and a walk in the valley. Back to Hanoi on the expressway. For clients who want history and mountains.
Bac Ha & Tu Le Adventure (5 Days). This loop starts on a Saturday, so clients reach the Bac Ha Sunday market. Day 1 has a boat trip on the Chay River. In Sapa, clients walk to Cat Cat and Ta Van villages and take the cable car towards Fansipan, with a hike to the 3,143 m summit. Then the rice terraces of Mu Cang Chai, with a night in an eco-lodge. The last day crosses the Khau Pha Pass to the Tu Le valley.
Both loops have long drives on mountain roads. Tell clients this before they book. For a seasonal idea in the same area, see our article on wild peach flowers in Mu Cang Chai.

Hue or Sapa? Matching the add-on to the client
- History and architecture lovers: Hue city tour or art tour.
- Military history: Phong Nha 2 days from Hue, or the Dien Bien & Sapa Circuit.
- Hikers and nature lovers: Bach Ma from Hue, or the Bac Ha & Tu Le loop.
- Photographers: Bac Ha market and the Mu Cang Chai terraces.
- Families with young children: Hue. Transfers are shorter and the ground is flatter.
- Clients with limited mobility: Hue with car and guide. Avoid the northern loops and Dark Cave.
- Clients flying into Hanoi: a northern loop at the start, then fly south.
- Clients based in Da Nang or Hoi An: Hue.
Seasons: when each add-on works
Hue. The heavy rains come from September to December. October and November are the wettest months, with long-term averages above 600 mm each. Floods are possible. February to April is the driest period. Summer is hot, so sightseeing works best early and late in the day.
Sapa. December to February is cold and often foggy. Frost is possible. Snow is rare. May to September is the rainy season, and trails can be muddy. The rice terraces turn gold around September. Timing changes by valley and altitude, so do not promise a date. October is usually dry and good for walking.
Phong Nha. In the rainy months, check with us before you confirm the trip.

What to avoid and how to present the offer
- Both add-ons in a short trip. Pick one.
- Selling a homestay to comfort-seekers. The Dien Bien & Sapa Circuit includes a homestay night in Mai Chau. Say so clearly.
- Promising the Fansipan view. Sell the cable car, not the view. Fog is common.
- The wrong start day for Bac Ha. The market is on Sunday. The loop starts on Saturday.
- Hue from October to November without a plan B. Build in some flexibility.
- Booking the city tour and the art tour back to back. They overlap.
How to present it: show the base trip first. Then add one clearly separated block, for example:
- “Add Hue: 2 nights, Hue Full Day City Tour and Bach Ma trek.”
- “Add the north: Bac Ha & Tu Le Adventure, 5 days, starts Saturday.”
Name what the client will do, the driving time and the best months. Clients decide faster when the add-on is concrete and honest about its limits.
Next step: tell us your client’s dates and which add-on fits through the VietOne contact page. We will check availability and send a quote.
