On Sunday 27 September, flight VJ2867 from Krasnoyarsk landed at Phu Quoc with more than 370 passengers on board — the island’s first-ever direct flight from Russia and the opening of the 2026–27 winter season, three weeks earlier than last year. By mid-November Phu Quoc will have scheduled Aeroflot A330s from Moscow, a six-a-week Sun PhuQuoc Airways programme from Sheremetyevo and charters from 13 Russian cities. Who flies from Russia to Phu Quoc this winter, and when?
Russia is now Vietnam’s third-largest source market and its fastest-growing: 863,500 arrivals in the first seven months of 2026, already more than the whole of 2025. Anex Vietnam alone expects to bring 13,000–15,000 Russian guests a month to Phu Quoc this winter. Five major tour operators and six airlines are behind the programme.

What does the extra capacity mean for availability — in every market?
Phu Quoc’s room stock is small for an island of its profile, and this winter’s capacity is well above last year’s, when the trade already described the island as “bursting at the seams”. By late August, Radisson Blu Resort, Meliá Vinpearl, New World, Regent, The Shells and Soul Boutique had stopped selling New Year dates to Russian operators. Over Tet in February 2026, occupancy reached 95%. Holiday-date packages are up 20–40% on last year, and PEGAS reported its New Year flights more than 60% sold by mid-September.
- The pressure dates are Christmas to mid-January and Tet (Saturday 6 February 2027; proposed public holiday 4–10 February). European clients wanting Phu Quoc over either window should be confirmed now, not in November.
- Russian guests stay two to three weeks and favour privacy — JW Marriott Emerald Bay and New World are named favourites, and the new all-inclusive Rixos opening in November will absorb more. Beach-front five-star inventory is where the squeeze is; boutique and mid-scale stock inland is less affected.
- November and March are the value months for everyone: full dry-season weather, flights running, hotels still pricing to fill.

What will clients ask about entry rules, season and APEC?
Entry. Russian citizens enter Vietnam visa-free for up to 45 days under a resolution valid until 14 March 2028, with no waiting period between entries. The same 45-day exemption covers Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK and the Nordics. Passports need six months’ validity; the electronic pre-arrival card is in testing and not yet mandatory. APEC 2027. Phu Quoc hosts the APEC Leaders’ Week in late 2027, and the province has set 31 May 2027 as the completion deadline for 21 projects. The runway extension is done, the VIP terminal is 96% complete and Terminal 2 is at 72%. Which products sell around the capacity?
- Island + Saigon. Two or three nights in Ho Chi Minh City with the Saigon full-day city tour; the domestic hop is 45–55 minutes.
- Island + Mekong. The My Tho full-day excursion is the simplest way to give a beach client one day of river life.
